Mo Kasti Coaching in the World Largest Coaching Session

Mo Kasti, HLI CEO, worked with another 100 top coaches and the coaching.com organization to deliver the world largest coaching session. This volunteer effort is part of HLI and Mo Kasti commitment to paying it forward to the coaching community globally!!
The event included a kick off by Alex Pascal, PhD , Founder and CEO of Coaching.com , Magdalena Nowicka Mook , CEO of International Coaching Federation and Marshall Goldsmith, Founder of 100 Coaches Agency and Coaching Legend Hall of Fame for your leadership.

Mo Kasti I coached a session of Managing and reducing stress. Participants included coaches and leaders from across the globe. We have people from as far as Brazil, Switzerland, USA, England, Sirilanka. the session was full of engagement, discussions, reflections, observations and curiosity that made the time go by so quickly!
We discussed the importance of changing the narrative around stress. Stress is a paradox: On the healthy side, it can help us improve and get to a better self or performance, or on the unhealthy side, It can paralyze us and lead to burnout. Using the Stress Performance Curve, we assessed the current State (WHAT IS). I am glad to hear that many of you are at 4/5 on a scale of 1-10. That is the optimal sweet spot. Which brough up the curiosity of what are your doing that allowing you to achieve optimal state on the curve. From the gathered answers, it sounded like that most of us are prioritizing self-care and harmonizing various demands in life to avoid burnout. JT, for example, added his perspective as a pilot, highlighting the mandate for need for rest as a safety. Rest equals Responsibility.
We also discussed Stress management and neuroscience: the book why Zebras Don’t get ulcer to illustrate the point that stress is an outcome in a formula of Stimulus x Response = Outcome. While a zebra cannot control stimulus (When a Lion gets hungry), human and Zebra can control the response to the stimulus. (Run as fast as you can). The difference that Zebra are able to turn off their nervous system after the threats is gone, we human we continue to act as if the threat is still there. Even worst, we activate our flight or flight mode even if there is no threat, just by thinking about it.

In coaching, the way to help our client navigate stress is to:
- Explain the SXR=O formula
- Take stock in what are their stimulus especially in the areas of Body, Relationships, Work/Career, and Autonomy.
- Discuss the power of Recovery. Build resilience through recovery.
- Identify areas/tactics of Recovery including: Body, Mind, Emotions, Spirit
- Develop a try-storm – small test of change in the recovery tactic choosen
- Develop an action plan
- Commit to an action
- Discuss accountability – the importance of accountability and taking high-impact actions to improve habits.
We also discussed, the say/do ratio. We cannot manage time, but we can manage commitments. How we make sure we say no more often to keep say/do ration equal or below 1.
Finally, we concluded with the reminder of practicing self-compassion that include being kind to ourselves and realize that we are human with limitations.
