The ABC of the Post COVID Leadership
As we continue to navigate the disruption of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I have had the fortunate opportunity interview more than 50 leaders about what they believe to be the most important skills a leader needs during and after a disruption. Here are the top 5 leadership skills for post COVID-19 which I am referring to as the ABCs of Post-COVID Leadership:
A: Agility and Adaptability. Be like water. Be willing to change with the terrain you find yourself in at any time. Do not be too committed to a specific strategy, be willing to change course anytime. Be creative inside and outside the box. Make the box a circle with infinite possibilities.
B: Balance: Find balance not just in Balance Sheets but balance between optimism and believing that things will be better, AND deal with brutal facts and current realities.
C: Courage to Act: Have to courage to act. Don’t be paralyzed by analysis or too much planning. A body in motion stays in motion. It is better to adjust.
D: Diversity: Diversity of ideas, diversity of the team, diversity of the approaches. Creativity comes from diversity.
E: Execution with Empathy: Execute Flawlessly. Sun Tzu says in the Art of War: The pinnacle of excellence is not how many battles you fought, the pinnacle of excellence is in the winnable battles you engaged in flawlessly.
Bonus: F: Forgiveness: Forgive yourself and others. No one has all the answers or the correct answers. What matters is that we try.
